Saoirse

Posted by Kristy

So a little unknown fact about me is Saoirse, Saoirse is my Irish alter-ego, if that makes any sense. I like to pretend I'm Irish and I met a lot of Saoirses (pronounced sair-shas) in Ireland, so I decided to use that name. Anyways, I first created my alter-ego when I was asked to talk about Christmas in Ireland for my friend's 3rd grade class. So instead of simply telling them about Ireland through a missionary's eyes I decided to pretend I was Irish. It was awesome, these kids loved me. My favorite part was as I was leaving I asked them (all in my fake Irish accent of course) if they wanted to hear my American accent because I had been practicing it. So of course all of the kids say, "yeah" so I drop my fake accent and say, "hey kids what's up?" Oh man it was hilarious, the kids freaked out and kept saying, "wow, that's creepy you sound just like us!" Hilarious.

Of course 3rd graders are pretty easy to fool so I figured I had to try out Saoirse on a more mature crowd. So that opportunity presented itself in the form of my roommates convincing me to go speed dating. Yes, speed dating. They had it at the WILK and it was from 7-8. It was really fun. At first I was afraid I couldn't keep my accent up all night, but oh I did. I seriously had guys look at me and say, "Your accent is incredible" and "It's so cool that you're Irish" and "What's the biggest difference between here and Ireland?" I'm telling you, Saoirse was one popular girl.
So the best part came the next day. I was leaving my apt with my friend Brian on our way to the BYU b-ball game, and I see my friend Abe, his brother and some blonde kid that looked familiar. So I start talking to Abe and this blonde kid is like staring at me like I'm an alien. He looked from Abe and me and said in disbelief, "You know her??" Then it clicked where I knew him from.......He was totally one of the guys from speed dating! Well, I guess I've been found out, but this is definitely not the end of Saoirse.
